Blackpool South Caravan And Motorhome Club Campsite

Blackpool South Caravan And Motorhome Club Campsite

So, there I was, stuck in a traffic jam on the M6, sweating like a sinner in church, when I spotted a sign that read 'Blackpool South'. Now, I've got nothing against Blackpool, but it's not exactly the first place that springs to mind when you're dreaming of a peaceful getaway. But then again, I've always been a sucker for a good surprise.

Fast forward a few hours, and I find myself pulling into Blackpool South Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. Now, I know what you're thinking, 'This guy's lost his marbles, Blackpool's a seaside town, not a campsite!' But hold your horses, because this place is a hidden gem that'll make you question everything you thought you knew about caravan camping.

First Impressions

As I drove through the gates, I was greeted by a sight that was anything but the bustling seaside town I'd been expecting. The campsite was nestled in a quiet, tree-lined valley, with the hum of the town a distant memory. It was like finding a secret garden in the middle of a bustling city.

I was met by Dave, the site warden, who was as friendly as they come. He showed me to my pitch, which was spacious and well-maintained, with electric hook-up and all the trimmings. I could see why this place had a five-pennant rating from the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

Facilities That'll Make You Say 'Wow'

Now, I've stayed at my fair share of campsites, and I've seen some pretty impressive facilities, but Blackpool South took the biscuit. The amenity block was spotless, with underfloor heating and individual showers that were big enough to host a small party. There was even a family room with a bath, perfect for those traveling with little ones.

But the pièce de résistance was the clubhouse. Think less 'caravan club' and more 'country club'. It had a lounge area with comfy sofas, a bar serving locally brewed beers, and a restaurant that served up some of the best campground food I've ever tasted. I'm talking homemade pies, fresh seafood, and a Sunday roast that could make a grown man weep.

Exploring the Surrounds

Despite the temptation to spend my entire holiday lounging in the clubhouse, I did manage to venture out and explore the local area. Blackpool itself is a bit of a mixed bag, but there's plenty to see if you know where to look. The Promenade is a must-visit, with its iconic tower, donkey rides, and fish and chip shops galore.

But if you're after something a bit more cultural, the Grand Theatre and the Winter Gardens are both well worth a visit. And if you fancy a day trip, the Lake District is just a stone's throw away. I spent a day hiking up to Helvellyn, and the views were well worth the blisters.

Would I Go Back?

In a heartbeat. Blackpool South Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite was a breath of fresh air. It showed me that you don't have to travel to the ends of the earth to find a peaceful, relaxing getaway. Sometimes, all you need to do is look a little closer to home.

So, if you're looking for a campsite that's got it all - fantastic facilities, a friendly atmosphere, and a location that's just a stone's throw from some of the UK's best attractions - then Blackpool South should be at the top of your list. Just don't tell too many people, I'd hate for it to get too popular!
