Where Are The Protesters In London Today

Where Are The Protesters In London Today

So, I was walking my dog, Biscuit, this morning, you know, the usual route down by the Thames. We pass the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben (or should I say, the clock tower now), and then we head towards Westminster Bridge. I've got my coffee in hand, Biscuit's got his nose to the ground, and we're both minding our own business. But then, I notice something's a bit... quiet.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who think London's always buzzing like a beehive. We've all got our off days, right? But today felt different. It was like the city was holding its breath, waiting for something. And that's when it hit me - where are all the protesters?

London's Not So Silent Anymore

Let's face it, London's no stranger to protests. From Brexit to climate change, we've seen our fair share of placards and megaphones. But today, the streets were quiet. No chants echoing off the buildings, no sea of signs as far as the eye can see. So, I started wondering, where did they all go?

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for a bit of peace and quiet. Biscuit certainly appreciates it - he's not one for loud noises, the poor thing. But it's not like Londoners have suddenly become content with the status quo. We're not that easy to please, are we?

So, Where Did They Go?

Well, I did a bit of digging (after I'd finished my coffee, of course). Turns out, the protesters haven't gone far. They're still here, still fighting the good fight. But they've adapted, evolved, if you will. They've taken their protests online.

I know, I know, it's not the same as being out there, in the thick of it. But hear me out. With the pandemic still a thing, and let's face it, the weather not exactly cooperating today, it makes sense. Plus, social media's given us a whole new platform to make our voices heard. And boy, are we using it.

I mean, have you seen some of the hashtags trending lately? #BlackLivesMatter, #ClimateChange, #COVID19 - they're all over the place. And behind each one, there are real people, real voices, making real change. It's pretty incredible, when you think about it.

Protesting in the 21st Century

Now, I'm not saying we should all ditch the placards and megaphones. There's something to be said for being out there, in the flesh, making your presence known. But this pandemic's shown us that there's more than one way to protest. And that's something worth celebrating.

So, next time you're wondering where all the protesters are, take a look around. They might not be on the streets, but they're definitely still here. They're on your Twitter feed, your Instagram stories, your Facebook groups. They're having conversations, sharing information, rallying support. And they're doing it all with a click of a button.

And who knows? Maybe one day, when the world's back to normal (whatever that is), we'll see them back on the streets too. But for now, let's appreciate the fact that protesting's evolved, just like everything else in this crazy world of ours.

Now, if you'll excuse me, Biscuit's giving me that look. You know the one - the 'I need a walk, and I need it now' look. So, I'd best get going. But remember, next time you're out and about, take a look around. The protesters might not be there, but their spirit certainly is. And that's something worth noting.
