Tesco And Morrisons Recall Products Due To Plastic And Allergens

Tesco And Morrisons Recall Products Due To Plastic And Allergens

So, I was in the middle of whipping up a storm in the kitchen last night - you know, one of those impromptu cooking sessions where you're convinced you're the next Gordon Ramsay. I'd grabbed a bag of Tesco's finest mixed peppers and a packet of Morrisons' yummy-looking chicken breast strips. I was feeling pretty smug, I must say.

Then, as I was about to chop away, I noticed something peculiar. The peppers had a little sticker on them, saying something about a 'possible presence of mustard'. Now, I'm not one to turn my nose up at a bit of mustard, but I've got a mate who's allergic to it, and he's always going on about how sneaky it can be in unexpected places. I thought, 'Hmm, better check that out later'.

And then, as if that wasn't enough excitement for one evening, I spotted something else. The chicken strips had a little 'use by' date that was, well, yesterday. I mean, come on Morrisons, I know I'm a bit of a last-minute Larry, but even I check dates before I buy!

Turns Out, I Wasn't Alone

It wasn't until I was scrolling through my socials the next day that I realised I wasn't the only one who'd had a bit of a shock at the supermarket. Tesco and Morrisons had both put out recalls for some of their products. And guess what? It was all about allergens and plastic. Who'd have thought, right?

Tesco's Peppery Puzzle

So, it turns out, those peppers I'd been so excited about were part of a recall. It seems Tesco had a bit of a mix-up in their packing department, and some peppers that should've had mustard in them didn't, while others that shouldn't have had it, did. Now, I'm no expert, but that sounds like a recipe for disaster if you've got an allergy.

Tesco was quick to apologise and said they'd recalled the affected packs. They even put up a list of the dodgy batches on their website. I had a quick look, and yep, there was my bag. Phew! I might not be the next Gordon Ramsay, but at least I'm not serving up a sneaky allergen to my unsuspecting taste testers (aka my flatmates).

Morrisons' Chicken Conundrum

Now, onto Morrisons. It turns out, their chicken strips weren't just a day out of date, they were really out of date. Like, over a month out of date. Eek!

Morrisons said they'd had a bit of a blip with their stock control, and some packs had been missed. They'd recalled the affected batches and were busy checking their other stores to make sure it didn't happen again. I mean, I'm all for a bargain, but I draw the line at chicken that's older than my plants (and that's saying something, considering my thumb is about as green as a snowman).

What Can We Learn?

So, what's the moral of the story here? Well, first off, always check the dates. I know it's a pain, but it's worth it to avoid a nasty surprise later on. And secondly, if you've got an allergy, always, always check the labels. Even if you think you're safe, it's worth that extra minute to double-check.

And finally, a little tip from me to you - if you're ever in doubt, give the supermarket a call. They're usually pretty helpful and can check if your product is part of a recall. It might save you a trip to the hospital (or, in my case, a very grumpy flatmate).

Stay safe out there, folks. And happy cooking!
