Ever found yourself at a darts match, feeling the energy in the room skyrocket as the crowd goes wild? You know what's about to happen - the walk-on song blasts through the speakers, and out struts the one and only, Michael Van Gerwen. But have you ever wondered, what's the story behind his iconic walk-on song?

Enter, 'Eye of the Tiger'

You might be thinking, "Hold on, isn't that the song Rocky Balboa uses to psych himself up in the movies?" Well, you're absolutely right! Michael Van Gerwen, or 'Mighty Mike' as his fans affectionately call him, has been using 'Eye of the Tiger' by Survivor as his walk-on song since 2012.

But why this particular song? Let's dive in and find out.

Why 'Eye of the Tiger'?

First off, let's talk about the song itself. 'Eye of the Tiger' is a power anthem if there ever was one. It's got that driving beat, those soaring vocals, and a chorus that just begs you to pump your fist in the air. It's no wonder it's become synonymous with triumph and determination.

Now, imagine you're Michael Van Gerwen. You're standing at the side of the stage, ready to step out in front of thousands of fans, with millions more watching on TV. You need a song that's going to get you hyped, get the crowd hyped, and set the tone for the match. 'Eye of the Tiger' does all that and more.

But it's not just about the song. It's about what it represents. For Van Gerwen, 'Eye of the Tiger' is more than just a walk-on song. It's a statement. It's a declaration that he's ready to fight, ready to compete, and ready to give it his all. It's a testament to his relentless drive and determination, both on and off the oche.

From Rocky to Darts

So, how did this iconic song make its way from the silver screen to the world of darts? Well, it's all thanks to Van Gerwen's manager, Barry Hearn. In an interview, Hearn revealed that he suggested 'Eye of the Tiger' to Van Gerwen as a way to pump up the crowd and get the young Dutchman in the zone.

And pump up the crowd it did. From the moment Van Gerwen started using 'Eye of the Tiger' as his walk-on song, it became a phenomenon. Fans started singing along, clapping, and cheering as soon as the first notes rang out. It was like a spark igniting a flame, and the energy in the room would skyrocket.

An Iconic Partnership

Since then, 'Eye of the Tiger' and Michael Van Gerwen have become almost inseparable. It's become a symbol of his career, a marker of his journey from young prodigy to darts legend. And it's not just the fans who love it. Van Gerwen himself has said that he loves the song and the energy it brings to his performances.

But here's the thing - it's not just about Van Gerwen. It's about the fans too. It's about the way 'Eye of the Tiger' brings everyone together, creating this electric atmosphere that's unlike anything else in sport. It's about the way it makes you feel, like you're part of something bigger, something special.

So, What's the Secret?

Is it the song itself? The lyrics? The beat? Or is it something more? Maybe it's the way 'Eye of the Tiger' taps into that primal part of us that loves a good fight, a good challenge. Maybe it's the way it reminds us that with determination and drive, we can all be champions in our own right.

Whatever it is, there's no denying that Michael Van Gerwen and 'Eye of the Tiger' are a match made in heaven. And as long as 'Mighty Mike' is on the oche, you can bet that the crowd will be singing along, ready to roar him on to victory.
