Trick or Treat? Halloween Ideas for Your 12-Year-Old Boy
Halloween's knocking at the door, and it's time to get your little ghoul ready for a spooktacular time! We've rounded up some awesome ideas that'll make this year's Halloween a treat for your 12-year-old boy.
Costume Ideas: From Hero to Villain
Let's start with the main event - the costume! Here are some ideas that'll have him ready to take on the neighborhood:
- Superhero Showdown: Is he a fan of Marvel or DC? Let him channel his inner hero as Spider-Man, Batman, or even the latest sensation, Spider-Man: No Way Home's Doctor Strange.
- Villainous Vibes: If he's feeling more mischievous, how about a costume inspired by his favorite villain? Think Loki, The Joker, or even the iconic Darth Vader.
- Pop Culture Picks: Does he love gaming? How about a costume from his favorite game, like Minecraft's Steve or Among Us' Susie? Or maybe he's a fan of Stranger Things - a Demogorgon costume is sure to be a hit!
Pro tip: Make sure the costume is comfortable and safe for trick-or-treating. No one wants a costume that's too hot, too cold, or too hard to see out of!

Spooky Crafts and Games
Get creative with these fun and festive activities:
- DIY Decorations: Have him help make some spooky decorations for your home. Pumpkin carving, ghostly garlands, or even a DIY haunted house can be a blast!
- Pumpkin Toss: Set up a mini pumpkin toss game in your backyard. Use a bucket or a large plastic bin as the target, and let him try to score a bullseye with his pumpkins.
- Halloween Bingo: Create or print out some Halloween-themed bingo cards. As you go trick-or-treating, have him mark off the items he sees. The first to get a bingo wins a small prize!
Fun fact: The tradition of carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns originated in Ireland, where people used turnips and beets instead of pumpkins!
Movie Marathon Magic
Once the trick-or-treating is done, it's time for a movie marathon! Here are some age-appropriate picks that'll keep him on the edge of his seat:
- Animated Adventures: Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or Monsters, Inc. offer spooky fun without the scares.
- Live-Action Laughs: Ghostbusters, Hocus Pocus, or Beetlejuice are classic comedies that'll have him giggling all night.
- Modern Must-Watches: For a more recent flick, try The Haunted Mansion, Goosebumps, or It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
Pro tip: Don't forget the popcorn and snacks! A movie marathon isn't complete without some tasty treats.
Reflection: Making Every Day a Little Spooky
Halloween might only come once a year, but that doesn't mean we can't bring a little spookiness to our daily lives. Encourage your 12-year-old to embrace his creative side, whether it's through art, writing, or even cooking. Who knows, he might just whip up a delicious dish that looks like a haunted dessert!
At the end of the day, Halloween is all about having fun and making memories. So, let your little ghoul enjoy the festivities, and don't forget to join in on the fun yourself. After all, you're never too old for a little trick-or-treating!
